CURTAIN ORDER WORKSHEET

HOW TO ORDER CURTAINS
Decide where you want your curtains to hang. There are pictures throughout this catalog to help you decide. If your curtains will be hanging within the window frame (inside mount), simply measure the inside top to sill (length) & side to side (width).

Do not subtract anything to allow for the curtain rod - we will do that. If your curtain is only for the bottom part of the window, measure the length from the point where the top edge of the curtain rod will eventually be mounted to the sill. If your curtains will be outside mounted (on the window frame or door or on the wall just beyond the window frame), you will need to decide where you want the rod to start & end to determine the width. For outside mount curtains, the length may be from top of rod to sill, to floor or to any other point.

Traditional curtains are usually double fullness. However, we recommend 1 1/2 fullness you are ordering applique or stencilling, as will show better with fuller folds.

If your windows face south or west, you may want to have them lined. Most of our curtains are unlined and linen is a very sturdy fabric. However, sun will eventually fade any fabric. Lining will prolong the life of your curtains, but it also adds bulk. Blackout lining is available by special order for sunny bedrooms or TV rooms.

Choose a top finish. A rod pocket is the simplest finish, but it adds the most bulk to the rod. If you choose rings or tabs you will be able to open your curtains a bit more. Our standard ring & tab sizes work for our 3/8" rodding. If you are using your own hardware, you will need to tell us the rod diameter & the ring allowance. The ring allowance is the measurement from the top inside of the ring to the bottom outside. We can sew on your own rings for you or provide drapery hooks for them.

Choose a blind or pin stitched hem. We recommend a blind hem if the curtains are to be lined as the pin stitching will not show to advantage. Pin stitching provides a clean & decorative finish for unlined curtains.

Order hold backs if you would like to hold your curtains away from the window.

Choose an applique or stencil in any combination from our color palette. Asymmetrical designs usually work best at an upper or lower corner. Symmetrical designs are usually centered at top or bottom. We will adjust the length of long vertical designs (like the Madison Iris) to suit the size of your curtain panel. If you would like a specific length, please request it when ordering. To calculate yardage, simply add up all the lengths, adding 6"per panel. Round up the total to the nearest 1/4 yard. If the width of your finished panel, plus 4", is wider than the width of the fabric, you will need an extra length & your finished panel will be seamed

Measure carefully to within 1/4". Decide if you want your curtain hung within the window frame or at the outside edges. For rods with finials, you may also mount your rods on the wall outside the window frame, so that when you push your curtains open, they completely clear the window.

Measure length from top of rod placement to wherever you want finished length: for example, edge of sill or floor. Inside-mount curtains should hang to sill. We will allow for rings, tabs or inside mount hardware. Measure each window separately, even if you think they are all standard. In many old houses, settling can make window sizes vary by as much as a 1/2 inch.

Decide if you want 1 1/2 or double fullness curtains, based on length of curtain rod. Calculate yardage, allowing 8 inches total for top and bottoms hems.
